On this week’s show we get to see what happens when computer students turn into murdering masterminds in INTERFACE.  Then we go to cheerleader camp in an 80 boner jam… (Or is it) that none of us have ever heard on called GIMME AN F. And finally 6 NFL players come home from Vietnam to avenge some murder in THE BLACK SIX. We also get around to having some football chat, what we’ve been watching this week, and news!

http://bloodbathspodcast.blogspot.com/

This week we dig into some Brian DePalma jams in the cross dressing cult favorite DRESSED TO KILL.  Then we start to get into the Christmas mood as Bill Goldberg jackhammer powerbombs this way through a ton of b list celebrity cameos in SANTA’S SLAY.  And finally Kyle covers an all in one night crime/missing person/mobster jam in RUNNING SCARED.  So check it out or Paul Walker will narc you out.

http://bloodbathspodcast.blogspot.com/

This week we have 4 movies to check out.  The first being one of the most touted and beloved films of 2018 in HEREDITARY.  Then we have a slasher featuring a killer Santa slasher featuring a bag of dicks… literally in ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE. Then we move on to a killer mutant snowman in JACK FROST featuring gratuitous Shannon Elizabeth side boob.  And finally we got an amazing flick that is exclusive to Shudder in TERRIFIED.  Spoiler alert!!!  One of these movies is one of our most hated movies ever to appear on our show and one is the best.

The Crawling Eye (YouTube/DVD) – This interesting 50s alien invasion flick is also known as “The Trollenberg Terror” which under that title has some extra footage to it also. Two sisters are on a train and are sitting with a scientist named Alan Brooks who is stopping in Trollenberg. The sisters decide to stop there with him. When they are there they soon learn there is a weird cloud that moves around the Swiss Mountains and has caused many accidents. Many have gone in the strange clouded mountains to not return. Or when they do they are dead and controlled by aliens. The one sister named Ann is considered a threat because of her psychic powers so throughout their time in Trollenberg her life is in danger. The aliens use the cloud cover to keep hidden until they strike. A wonderful sci-fi flick that lets you soak up the story before they roll out the creatures for the finale as I give the film 2 ½ stars.

Death Collector (VHS) – This little known sci-fi film is from 1988 with two brothers Wade and Jack, one is a cop and the other is a traveling musician. Brother Jack gets shot saving Wade from a mob dude named Hawk. Apparently Hawk owns everyone’s life insurance policy. Wade gets framed and heads to prison for five years and then gets released along with all convicts because the world has gone broke. The banks caused the apocalypse as they made 99% of the world go into financial ruin. Wade is heads back to Hartford City to find Hawk as he wants to collect and it becomes a fight to the death. A different concept with not much going on in this post-apocalyptic film as I give it 1 star. Weird fact is the film was titled at one point “Tin Star Void”???

Escape from Safeheaven (VHS) – This is another lesser known society has gone into disarray film where there is safe zones called Safeheaven. They are fortified places that supposedly protect people from the savages in the outside world. Problem is the people inside run the community with an iron fist and sometimes are worse than the savages outside the walls. But a resistance is brewing inside the community and they are about to be led by a man named Pierce and a fake blind man. The film has a different take on the apocalypse but lacks in story telling as I give the film 1 ½ stars. The film also was sold in different countries as “Bloodscape”.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (DVD) – I personally was rather excited when there was a sequel but oh I was sadly disappointed. The Kingsman’s headquarters and agents are all just about destroyed. In order to fight the man who help bring them down they join forces with American allies. The stunts seem to be bloated and useless with too much CGI.  And believe they should have left the Americans out of it as the films have now lost what was unique or fun about it. I give the sequel 1 ½ stars.

Leprechaun Returns (On Demand) – I believe this reboot of sorts surprised most of us horror fans especially since “Leprechaun: Origins” left a bad taste in our mouths. This film goes the way of the latest “Halloween” flick by ignoring all the other sequels. This newest entry tried to have a connection to the first film that Leprechaun fans would accept. Its biggest obstacle was replacing Warwick Davis as the title character. Well kids they did a good job and Linden Porco deserves a job well done for his performance as the Leprechaun. Lila is a college student who has just joined a sorority that bought a house far from campus for scientific reasons. The house happens to have the well where the Leprechaun was sent to his death 25 years ago and Lila is Jennifer Aniston aka Tori’s daughter. To help fill in backstory Mark Holton returns as Ozzie and tries to warn Lila of the danger. The Leprechaun has been mostly forgotten and the small town has moved on as the college has taken over. But of course you can’t keep a good Leprechaun down and he finds a way to return and begin his bloody killing spree again while looking for his gold.  Steven Kostanski did an amazing job bringing this once dead franchise back to life and added much needed gore back too. I know it made this Leprechaun movie fan happy there is a chance to see more as I give the film 3 ½ stars.

Killer High (DVD/SyFy Channel) – A high school reunion goes horribly wrong when a supernatural warthog mascot shows up butchering everyone. The women who went at each other all during high school trying to one up each other are made to work to together to solve this problem. Meanwhile the school becomes bathed in blood throughout the film until the two women can put aside their differences to battle this thing. There is an absolutely beautiful scene of a Christian girl who wants to face the thing with only a cross believing god will save her? Let’s just say she was wrong in a big way. What actually makes this movie wonderful is I was not expecting much from this film from its title and it premiering on SyFy but I was wrong! And happy to be wrong. Best way to summarize it is “Dance of the Dead” with a supernatural warthog instead of zombies as I give the horror flick 3 ½ stars.

Run (VHS) – A movie that was in and out of theaters in 1990/1991 where it places Patrick Dempsey in an action film. Patrick plays Charlie the law student who works as a mechanic to pay for college. He has a chance to make some extra money driving a car to Atlantic City one weekend. Of course young and dumb Charlie does it anyway and of course finds himself winning big at a poker table. Problem becomes a mob boss’ son is not happy and starts a fight with Charlie. But Denny accidentally dies in the scuffle and Charlie runs for good reason as the mob is now after him. For the rest of the movie Charlie must dodge the mob and the crooked cops in order to figure out who is actually on his side. Not a whole lot to the film but it is an entertaining watch if needing to kill 90 minutes as I give it 2 ½ stars.

The Hand Strikes (YouTube) – Philip Brocklehurst a young filmmaker that is constantly working as just released his latest short film about a troubled man. The man has relationship troubles and to him the only to help cope with it is to just cut off his left hand with a meat cleaver. I mean it is completely logical… I guess! But anyway the hand isn’t dead and wants revenge for its owner cutting it off. I always enjoy Mr. Brocklehurst’s work but one thing did bother me about the short film as the severed hand constantly goes from left to right throughout the short film. Otherwise great to see more fun stuff from another talented filmmaker as I give it 2 ½ out of 4 stars.

Treevenge (YouTube) – A most beautiful and twisted Christmas tale about what a Christmas tree’s point of view during the holiday season. They wait for the right time to slaughter and torture humans… and I love it. This short film is perfect as I give it 4 stars all the way!

Running Scared (DVD) – An under radar type of film that stars Paul Walker in 2006 as low man on the totem pole mob crony. He is asked to get rid of a gun from a drug deal gone badly but the neighbor kid finds it and uses it to shoot his abusive stepfather. Things spiral quickly out of control as Paul Walker’s character Joey has to find the kid quickly or Joey and his family could disappear. If you are a fan of mob movies this is worth checking out especially for the twist at the end as I give it 2 ½ stars.

Johnny Gruesome (On Demand) – This independent flick is from filmmaker and author Gregory Lamberson. The story is from Greg’s book of the same name where Johnny is the typical head banging high school student. One night Johnny and his three friends are out driving and partying. Johnny begins driving faster and the friends worry. So Johnny is stopped and accidently killed so the three friends that were in the car make a pact to keep it secret as Johnny wasn’t gonna be missed. Shortly after the funeral Johnny’s restless undead body rises from the grave and begins murdering people at the high school as he wants revenge. Movies and books I have absolutely loved everything Mr. Lamberson has done… but this movie was a big miss for me. The trailer looks great and I like the concept of the Johnny Gruesome character but on film it never translates into success like a “Killer Rack” or “Dry Bones” to name a couple recent projects. I really wanted to love this film but it failed me as I have to give it 2 out of 4 stars.

Dead or Alive (DVD) – Takashi Miike makes a bat shit crazy film about a cop who takes on the Japanese mafia! You will think you have watched everything until you sit down and watch this flick as I give it 2 stars.

The Lawless Land (VHS/YouTube) – If it’s the 80s, foreign, and post-apocalyptic of Roger Corman produced it. A mid -80s flick that stars Amanda Peterson and Jsu Garcia as a young couple, Falco and Diana who are in love and from different sides of the track. They run off together and get married because Diana’s father disapproves and has Falco arrested shortly after. But Diana is in hiding and her father hires a merc to track her down. Falco breaks out of prison and tries to reach her before he does. Think of it as a love story in the wasteland. Needed more Patrick Swayze and his sword from “Steel Dawn”. I give the film 1 ½ stars.

All Through the House (DVD) – A low budget and first full feature from Todd Nunes that picked up some steam a couple years ago after hitting the horror festival circuit. The film has two storylines going: the first is, Rachel has come back home and wants to hang with friends but also help Mrs. Garrett the neighbor to finish decorating for the holiday. Second, is the masked Santa that is going from house to house slaughtering unsuspecting victims? Things seem to be your normal slasher flick until we learn Mrs. Garrett is the female version of Joe Spinell from “Maniac” and the killer enjoys hacking dude’s penises off. (They explain why at the end). This will sound awesome when reading about it but it has many flaws that I think hold the film back from being brilliant. Outside of Nunes’ sister as the lead actor and Mrs. Spinell the acting is horrid and that is being nice. And I believe if some things in the film happen in a little different order I believe we are talking about this film with the likes of “Black Christmas” and “Silent Night Deadly Night”. I give the movie 2 stars.

Terrified (Shudder) – A crazy paranormal horror film produced in Argentina where something lives in the darkness of a couple houses close together. Something monstrous but really cannot be explained. Things get weirder as the young boy dies and rises from the grave sitting at a table with its cereal and milk freaking everybody out. An older cop sees this and believes something supernatural is happening. The cop brings in a couple paranormal investigators and they find something that lives in the darkness that is completely unknown and fascinating. Things go horribly wrong and everyone dies and it’s awesome! I give it 3 stars.

Hereditary (DVD) – I want my 127 minutes of life back that I wasted watching this pile of elephant dung! A weird family with secrets where grandma was a witch and worshipped an eighth demon from the left wing of hell and a young girl gets decapitated by a telephone pole. Or rich white people with rich white people problems in this very boring film about a demon cult. The only highlight was me laughing 60 seconds straight when the little girl’s head got smacked off! I give it crap because it is crap, it was crap, and always will be crap!

Ninja Busters (VHS) – Holy fucking Rutger Hauer where was this B-movie hiding at? Two guys that are complete bums: one claims to Bruce Lee’s teacher and the other to be a student of Bruce Lee. But the two losers Bernie and Chic keep getting their asses beat until they stop by a martial arts studio to check out the women. They are convinced to join and after a couple years of training and hijinks they are martial arts masters. These so-called masters get themselves wrapped up with a mob boss and his hired ninjas that end the film in an ongoing twenty minute battle that even takes place in a nightclub. Supposedly ninjas don’t go to nightclubs… boy they were wrong. Think a buddy cop movie with ninjas and bad acting as I give it 2 stars.

Interface (DVD) – This oddball flick was released in 1985 by Vestron Pictures and I had high hopes for it after seeing the box. But sadly it didn’t live up to the box of weirdness I thought I might get? It wasn’t all disappointing as the film starts with a street punk played by Lou Diamond Phillips selling cocaine to some not really relevant rich dude. They get ambushed by a prankster that has cult status on the local college campus where he/she/it targets criminals. This time was different as someone died. Meanwhile Professor Hobson’s grad student disappears and he is the main suspect as the student’s wife isn’t helping much as she keeps getting Hobson in trouble with the law. After Hobson does his own investigating he finds out there is a secret group of hackers who wear weird costumes and use the master computer to decide who lives and who dies? Supposedly this was a student film made on the campus of Texas University and got lucky when video dealers were looking for films to put out there on VHS. Not a great film but one those geeky films you are glad you can say “you seen it” as I give it 2 stars.

The Equalizer 2 (DVD) – I was surprised to learn but excited Mr. Washington was doing a sequel to the movie that was based on an old 80s TV show. Only problem is it wasn’t nearly as good. But anyway Robert McCall is still anonymously helping out folks that no one else will help. This time around his closest friend is taken out after a simple trip overseas and it is all about tying up loose ends. McCall let’s nothing get in his way to kill every last person that has anything to do with his best friend’s death. I enjoy the concept and the heart is there but I thought this was the wrong script to go with. I still hold hope for a third flick but doubt it highly as I give the film 2 ½ stars. The movie isn’t all bad but they could have done at least a dozen better storylines instead of the usual one?

The Black 6 (YouTube) – The film has a bad ass beginning, a chaotic ending, nothing in the middle and stars six of the biggest football stars in 1973! A young black man named Eddie is killed by a white motorcycle gang. The Black Six get wind of this after a letter and take it upon themselves to visit this racist little ass town to find answers. Instead they must fight even though they want peace. By the way Mean Joe Greene is one of the six. Love the concept just wish there was more to the film as I give it 2 ½ stars.

Ant-Man and The Wasp (DVD) – So Paul Rudd has been under house arrest for the past two years for helping the Avengers and Hank and his daughter refuse to talk to him. But Hank opened a portal for a few seconds that has Scott having dreams or flashbacks of the ‘quantum realm’ where Hank’s wife might still be alive. Hank and his daughter get Scott and try to fight off a new enemy of sorts named ‘Ghost’. They believe with the help of Scott and certain parts they can open a portal into the quantum realm and find her. The movie isn’t horrible at all but like the Thor films it feels like here is something to hold your attention for now until the stuff you really want will come out a year later. I give it 2 stars.

Gimme an “F” (YouTube) – A wannabe 80s sex comedy about a cheerleading camp that failed to be entertaining but may have been the prequel to “Bring it On” and the sad lost sequel to “Meatballs”? High school cheerleaders come from all over to this cheerleader camp to compete and learn before the regionals. A mid-twenties trainer wants more than just teaching cheerleading to high school girls may have his chance when his boss makes a bet with him to make the worst squad into something good. You do get a pair of sweater puppets with flags on them and almost underage sex but that is about the closest to a sex comedy in this feature. Also it runs twenty minutes too long as I give it 1 star. Next time cast Donald Gibb!

Dressed to Kill (DVD) – A great and creepy flick with an amazing cast that has an unknown blonde as a serial killer. Angie Dickenson plays a bored house wife who after seeing her doctor played by Michael Caine for advice, goes and cheats on her husband. After enjoying the experience she just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when a tall blonde slices and dices her on an elevator. The only witness who soon becomes suspect is an escort played by Nancy Allen in which the cops or Dennis Franz doesn’t believe her story. Meanwhile Angie’s son played by Keith Gordon begins to research and track who is leaving the doctor’s office and what time to figure out who could be the killer? Franz lets the escort know the evidence could be in the doctor’s office but no one is going to give him a warrant on hearsay. So Nancy and Keith devise a plan to get in the doctor’s office to get the evidence but be careful what you wish for in this well-crafted tale of murder. The film is nearly 40 years old and still entertaining as I give it 3 stars… Yeah, a buck naked Nancy Allen will never hurt the eyes folks.

American Antichrist (DVD/YouTube) – This independent flick stars, was written, and directed by filmmaker Dakota Ray. Mr. Ray dips his toe into the truly bizarre as the film is like a combo of death metal video and an experimental student film? A serial killer who dies of a drug overdose that considers himself as the Antichrist is kind of the center point or wrap around to the anthology depending on how you watch the film. Main aspect of the film is about depravity and desperate acts of humanity and how low people will go… or that is at least what I got out of it. Again the movie has that student film feel but unfinished like there was more too it but never shot. Plus and I could be totally wrong here it felt like Mr. Ray was experimenting with certain angles, lighting, etc. that will most likely help him in future projects. Honestly not totally sure what to think but it is bizarre enough I can see this independent feature finding a hardcore audience as I give it 2 out of 4 stars. For more info on the film go to:      https://www.facebook.com/American-Antichrist-350101585480631/

Night of the Demon (YouTube/DVD) – A professor and his students are studying the Bigfoot and its legend behind it head out to the woods. In these woods there are stories of Bigfoot sightings they are trying to investigate to decide for themselves if it is just a hoax? Along the way the professor tells the stories that have told about encounters with Bigfoot in these woods that include: Bigfoot airplane spinning a camper and ripping a dude’s dick off! Even though Bigfoot looks like a giant Irish setter that doesn’t stop him from fucking up some Girl Scouts, having Bigfoot vision like Predator, and apparently Bigfoot was so horny he rapes a young lady in the woods. Some hilarious and entertaining shit that is worth revisiting folks as I give it 3 stars.

The Devil’s Express (YouTube) – Some crazy ass mid-70s exploitation that involves a martial arts master, a New York street gang, and a Chinese demon that hangs out in the subway system. People are beginning to die in the subways after this master… Luke comes back home from China and this demon follows him some way, somehow. After his best friend is killed by the demon not a street gang Luke takes it upon himself to seek out the entity and end it. The films starts off slow but stick with it as some entertaining shit gets thrown screen in the second half of the film. I give this flick 3 stars.

No Escape Room (SyFy Channel/DVD) – Karen and her father get one weekend a month together and Karen is in her teenager stage of not caring what parents want. When their car breaks down and unsure of what to do until it gets fixed they decide to go a small town “Escape Room”. Karen’s friends have talked about it and dad feels this is a good way to bond. Once there they are with a few other people and the game begins as they only have 60 minutes to get through the spooky house. As they search for keys to move from room to room some freaky things begin to happen and people playing go missing. A little above average horror film that makes you question if any of the events in the film actually happen or not at all? I give it 2 ½ stars.

Dementia 13 (Remake/DVD) – Very surprised to learn there was a remake of the 1963 classic and this version sticks close to the original concept. An abusing rich husband is killed off by his beautiful wife. A couple weeks go by and the husband’s family arrives at the castle for a weird yearly memorial. The family never approved of the wedding but the wife did not care as she had plans with all the money. But the plot thickens when she killed soon after the family arriving by a hooded figure. A horror film about rich people’s problems with enough blood spilled and a twist to satisfy the curious viewer as I give it 2 ½ stars.

Amazon Hot Box (DVD) – A crowd-funded project about an innocent college student name Penny who is thrown into prison with a few other women for a minor misunderstanding. This prison isn’t a normal prison as it is all “Reform School Girls” inside and Penny is the prize. The island is called Rattica and Warden Inga Von Krupp runs the place in order to carry out her experiments. By the way the evil warden is played perfectly by Ellie Church. In her short career she is making an impact in cinema and people are taking notice. Anyway Krupp enjoys experimenting on the inmates. But Krupp is totally unaware Penny is a KS-13 agent who has been trying to infiltrate the prison to bring it down as another agent tries to break in. The government wants this illegal operation to be brought down. The film is a throwback of sorts to the ‘women in prison’ movies. It’s fun, entertaining, tries its best to hit all the right scenes, but outside Ellie Church’s performance the movie is average as I give the film 2 ½ stars.

Sorority Slaughter House (DVD) – A project that stars Eric Roberts, directed by David DeCoteau, and written by Rolfe Kanesky that wasn’t produced by Full Moon somehow. Eric Roberts stars as a dean of a college long enough to commit suicide and have his spirit transferred to a clown doll. After a sorority girl played with his emotions the dean now 12 inches tall decides it is his time to go murder a few sorority girls. The movie gets a little dull in the sense we have seen this horror film one too many times but the highlight for me was I believe the movie was made at the same house in “Bigfoot vs. D.B. Cooper” and for that I will always enjoy David DeCoteau. It’s bad but a fun bad as I give it 2 stars and don’t forget to look for the nerdy girl using the clown as “an appliance with no quit”…

Truth or Dare (SyFy Channel/DVD) – No one cared except the select few cult horror fans know of the Tim Ritter film of the same until this past year where somehow we got two films of the same name but went different directions with the concept. This version goes the twisted route where they make up some simple movie rules for the game that teenagers play. Thirty some years later after a game of Truth or Dare went very tragic some college kids rent the place where it took place and decide to play the game and party. But the game gets out of control quickly as they all get upset with each other and begin to get injured or die because they didn’t do the dare. A demon within the home waits for that certain group of people to latch on and not let go until they all die. Wasn’t expecting much from the movie but was much better than it should have been as I give it 3 stars.

Scream for Help (DVD) – This weird version of “The Stepfather” and “ABC After School Special” is pretty sleazy and written by Tom Holland in 1984. A 17 year old Christie Cromwell believes her new step father is trying to kill her and her mother. Christie always felt Paul Fox was good looking enough to steal her mother away but had a feeling he wanted her money more. Since no one believes Christie she goes on a crusade to convince her mother he is cheating on her. Once Christie has proof and her mother does believe her, Paul Fox and another couple who are supposed to be brother and sister decide it is time to purge these two! This weirdo flick gets 2 stars and little known fact is the film was only released on DVD within the past few months.

Beyond Atlantis (YouTube) – Sid Haig in an early 70s flick as a pimp who finances a trip for treasure on an island where they encounter natives with big ass eyeballs and a woman that must reproduce! No need to say more as I give it 3 stars.

Death Machines (DVD) – An Asian woman and her three assassins have taken over a sleazy city. If you want to put out a hit on someone you must go through her now as her unstoppable assassins cannot be killed. But off course the three men are getting restless with the dragon lady so they kill her and grab a train ticket. Not a whole lot to the film but it does have some entertaining parts as I give it 2 stars.

Blood Lake (YouTube/VHS) – A really bad shot-on-video slasher flick about a group of people who head out a vacation spot for some partying. The party is cut short when a deranged killer shows up to start killing people in the group. The acting is bad, the lighting is bad; I think I do better camera work, so I think I really enjoyed this bad movie as I am Tim Gross and I give it 2 stars.

13 Ghosts (DVD) – A classic horror from 1960 about a family who inherits a supposedly haunted mansion. The mansion is a home to ghosts that their relative brought from all over the world. Even though the family is haunted by the restless spirits there are even more evil forces at work here trying to get the money that is hidden within the home? I give the classic 3 stars.

Dick Johnson and TommyGun vs. The Cannibal Cop (Blu-ray) – With a title like that you always have my attention just because but it never hurts to have Debbie Rochon and Danny Hicks in your cast also. The movie opens with a woman being abducted in an alley way by a serial killer posing as a police officer. After a detective (TommyGun) gets a piece of info about this he is partnered up with a younger detective Dick Johnson. Together these two are given the go ahead to track down all leads on the case as details have already been leaked to the public. What helps the two unlikely partners is a book made of flesh that was found inside a dufflebag left in the alley way. In Latin the book explains that the killer will keep abducting victims and eating them until he has a hundred souls and he will become a god. As the two detectives set their differences aside to get deeper into the investigation the story takes a nice weird twist. A great buddy cop horror movie that reminds me a little of the 80s film “Dead Heat”. Gross Movie Reviews #452

Horror of Dracula (DVD) – One of the early Hammer films that made Hammer a household name in 1958. The classic starred Peter Cushing as Van Helsing and Christopher Lee as Dracula and became the magic formula that a generation of horror fans cherished. And still do. Up until this film people only knew of Universal Studios version of Dracula. The original film was good but was a little boring at times. This version took a little twist, added bright blood, and Cushing and Lee playing their roles to perfection made this film an absolute delight. Harker is sent to Count Dracula’s castle to see if the rumors are true and if so kill him. Harker fails but gets his diary out for Helsing to find and give him clues on what happened at the castle. Problem is Count Dracula now wants a new woman and heads out looking for Harker’s Lucy. No one believes Van Helsing about Count Dracula until he finds an undead Lucy trying to take a child to her crypt. This version of the Dracula films might be the first film I would introduce to a new fan of vampires. Don’t get me wrong Bela Lugosi was awesome but they upped the ante having Cushing and Lee at their peak. This film gets 4 stars all the way.

Halloween (Theater) – Remake, sequel, forgetting everything in the series? Take your pick as Blumhouse Productions goes the route of JJ Abrams “Star Trek” in bringing Michael Myers back for another installment. That’s the best way to describe it. But I will give you the long way about it also: Okay folks, first you are supposed to forget everything after the first film 40 years ago… Second, even though “Halloween II” took place the same night Halloween 1978, forget that too just in case. Third, no this isn’t a remake of “H20” even though there are a few scenes of déjà vu. Fourth, Laurie Strode and Michael Myers are not brother and sister which I believe they explain quickly and brilliantly during the film. Fifth, didn’t Laurie Strode die? Oh yeah, you were supposed to forget that too since you are not supposed to remember she died already in Part 8. Sixth, no Busta Rhymes and Michael died for good at the end of part 8 (if interested “Halloween: Resurrection”, remember don’t blame me). Seven, didn’t Rob Zombie start a new timeline? It’s very therapeutic for me to explain this.  Now with all that out of the way I absolutely fucking love this film. It felt like a part of the series part sequel/part renewing of original material. After The Babysitter Murders in 1978 Michael Myers was captured by the Haddonfield Police and Dr. Loomis. Since then Michael has been sitting in a maximum security asylum for the past 40 years and Laurie Strode has become a basket case doomsday prepper who suffers from surviving that night. A British podcast team comes asking questions on the 40th anniversary of the murders. Laurie is more concern as they are about to move Michael to a horribly tortuous secured facility where he will live out the rest of his life not saying a word. They show him the mask and it does get a reaction but still no words. It is believed that both Michael and Laurie only live to kill each other at this point? Of course Michael escapes and starts murdering spree going house to house until finding out where Laurie and her family is. This time Laurie is prepared! If you pay attention there is a lot of talk of Dr. Loomis, the school daze scene, Laurie Strode falling out the window and getting up, the people behind this really did their best to incorporate the first film. Including the opening credits! Simply it was nice to enjoy the series again without trying to reinvent the ‘Boogeyman’ as I give this 4 stars with a little hesitation for the mere reason I believe there is a couple different endings for this film and that MAKES ME INTRIGUED.

I Think We’re Alone Now (DVD) – A very interesting post-apocalyptic film that stars Peter Dinklage in a small town where a plague of sorts hit the world. He has been living there for some unknown amount of time cleaning out houses and burying the dead. Del catalogs everything and is at peace with the life of living alone. Then one evening fireworks go off and a car crash in town. Del gets up goes to investigate only to find a young lady with a gun and knocked out. Once awake he explains she should be on her way but Grace is looking for a home and just seeing the sights? The two get to know each other and Del accepts Grace’s presence into his peaceful world until it is shattered when he awakes and hears voices. He peaks downstairs only to meet her parents, sort of? As she asks for help from Del but refuses and leaves but he is told of a town that has gotten past the apocalypse and has returned to normal life again. It haunts him until he takes a drive looking for her. The film hints constantly at something more sinister is going on… This film gets 3 ½ stars from me as it comes up with a post-apocalyptic world that isn’t all about assless chaps, Eye-talians, zombies, and flesh eating viruses. This is something different that does not focus on the problem as just people existing and moving on.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (Theater) – This story is somewhat separate from the first film but continues inside the Goosebumps universe. A couple of kids running an after school business called ‘The Junk Bros.’ are asked to clean out an old house where they find a trunk. The trunk holds an unpublished book from R.L. Stine/Jack Black called “Haunted Halloween”. Once they open it they unleash Slappy. Slappy is hell bent on making the book a reality and giving it the ending that has yet to be written? So on Halloween night Slappy and the Goosebumps got everybody running for their lives again as now Slappy wants his own mother. The kids are forced to not only save mom but defeat Slappy or it becomes ‘Haunted Halloween’ every day. The sequel introduces ‘The Haunted Mask’ and a few other Goosebumps characters we may have not seen in the first film but this one felt more like its own story. The first film felt more of an origin story to the “Goosebumps” story world. Of course it’s left open for a third but I will be surprised to see a third film unless it is “Horrorland” in theaters? The info that is circulating out there why this one took so long and why they didn’t have most of the main characters return from the first film was: conflicting schedules. Don’t worry Goosebumps fans the movie is still a lot of fun and might not have been the sequel I believe we all wanted… It is still very entertaining and gets 3 stars.

Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau (Blu-ray) – An unbelievable documentary that dives right into the rumors and truth on what the hell really happened on the set of the remake of “Island of Dr. Moreau”. This is a subject if you were a horror fan, let me correct that a Richard Stanley you were nothing but excited for this project back in the mid-90s. “Hardware” and “Dust Devil” were amazing projects and breathed some much needed air into cinema. I believe the project was being remade for what the third time now but Stanley had some fresh ideas. But when the crew and Stanley started shooting that’s when all the weird stories began to happen, weird casting choices, Stanley being fired and disappearing, New Line Cinema wasting millions of dollars, etc. The stories seem to be urban myths as the internet wasn’t what we know it today. For the first time we get the whole story from everyone involved (mostly) and you decide: Richard Stanley completely crazy or just misunderstood and the project was forced to go down in flames from all involved? This is the type of documentary that gives you not only the inside look of how Hollywood people can lose their mind but how it can affect all involved. Great deep inside stuff on this disc and actually makes me want to revisit the remake just for the hell of it as I give the documentary 3 ½ stars.

Impulse (YouTube) – All you need to know folks is William Shatner as a very sleazy con man taking rich woman for their money! Hands down one entertaining mid-70s flick that I give 2 ½ sleazy Shatners. If you are a 70s film buff and haven’t seen this one? You will not be disappointed and thank YouTube for it.

Cannibal Tick (DVD) – William Long’s latest independent project is feature length and deals with mutations. There is an experiment with ticks by a good doctor who has been modifying their genetics. Making the tick an unstoppable eating machine! The good doctor knows this is some bad stuff he is working with and knows it’s only a matter of time before something bad happens with lab protocols not being followed. Of course the assistant has stolen the samples and the new cannibal tick gets out destroying everything. Now containment is almost an abandoned idea. I enjoy Mr. Long’s vision of what he wants on film. He doesn’t have the budget or crew to pull it off but still has the passion to bring it to life and see what happens. It has a few sound and pacing issues but just like early Polonia Brothers S.O.V. films Mr. Long still makes an entertaining film for us independent movie buffs as I give it 2 ½ stars. Check out the Facebook page for more info: www.facebook.com/Cannibal-Tick-129223514362159 .

Happy Death Day (DVD) – I put this film off for a good long time because it was PG-13 and just thought it would be another commercialized throw away horror film? I WAS WRONG! I got interested after seeing the sequel trailer feeling it was time to sit down and give this a try. Blumhouse Productions apparently knows what they are doing. I now put them with A24 studios in that segment of my mind when I see the label their films are must-see. Anyway the film centers around a college girl named Tree who keeps living her birthday over and over as she is killed during the day at some point. Think “Groundhog Day” the horror movie version. After several times of this happening she decides to use the day to investigate who is actually trying to kill her and see if she can stop it from happening. If she does she gets to live to see tomorrow. Simple horror movie but with great casting, characters you actually care about, and a horror that has no business being this damn good. Sometimes we or just I can drudge through some bad, boring, and downright worthless horror films but a gem like this is why I love horror movies. I give this wonderful horror film not meant for me and my age 3 ½ stars.

Stanley (DVD) – Tim is a peaceful Indian who got drafted into the Vietnam War and is now back home in the everglades just trying to enjoy life his way. He finds peace with snakes he calls friends. Tim is very good at catching poisonous snakes and takes them to some Miami doctors so they can use their venom for anti-venom. But recently some poachers have been killing the snakes off nearby for their skins. Tim and his best friend Stanley the snake doesn’t take kindly to this and begin a fight with the poachers. A very weird early 70s film has that feel of “Frogs” and maybe “Squirm”. This lesser known flick does fit the tone of a “Deathdream” and other flicks of that era for that I give it 2 ½ stars. There is a lot of cool extras also worth tracking this disc down.

Eye of the Devil (DVD) – An old school black and white flick from the 60s that stars Donald Pleasence as the family priest! Do I need to say more? Some rich dude is called back home because the family vineyard is dying and some evil shit needs to go down for the vineyard to thrive again. I give the film 2 stars and Mr. Pleasence 4 stars as usual.

The Killing of Satan (DVD) – Another crazy ass film from the Philippines where a man is chosen to battle evil and eventually Satan. He must defeat Satan for the release of his daughter! The dude’s name is Lando, people are shooting laser beams from their hands and eyes, and apparently there are boulders that weigh less than air being thrown around. I really wanted to enjoy this film but fell asleep twice. I only give the film 1 ½ stars but totally believe this needs to be watched in a setting with beer and a group of people.

The Last Halloween (YouTube) – A lost TV show from NBC that only played once in October 1991. Get this folks the show stars Rhea Perlman, Richard Moll, and had Savage Steve Holland directing. Think of a cut up episode of “Goosebumps” that involves Martians landing in a small town looking for ‘cooby’ aka candy on Halloween night. The appeal of this never knowing it existed like the “Grinch Halloween” as I give this 2 stars.

Tank Girl (DVD) – This 1995 mess of a flick is what feeds the 90s being a bad decade for films. Oh this post-apocalyptic flick is total mess but after reading the bio and other information that has come out about the film over the years this film was a shell of what should have happened. Anyway it is 2033 and several years ago a comet hit Earth and made most of the water dry up. Now, a corporation called “W&P” and run by Malcolm McDowell own what is left of the water and will do anything it takes to ensure that. But Tank Girl or Lori Petty isn’t going to sit idly by it let them take what belongs to the people. Now remember folks this was a comic book movie made before “Guardians of the Galaxy” so studios didn’t give much effort to cult projects such as this or I should allow them to be themselves? I am not a Lori Petty fan but do not see anyone else at that time that would have pulled off the role. Also knowing what I know while watching this flick again it is ashame but it is still a bad movie mess as I give it 1 star. Maybe the project would have had a better chance now than then? Or it just needed the studio to let the crew do their thing… who knows?

Gunhed (VHS) – Here is a random B-movie from Toho Productions that was supposedly a “Godzilla” project in the early stages because of a contest. One thing led to another and it became something else as it set somewhere past 2025 on an island called ‘8-JO’. It is an island that is run by a supercomputer (Kyron-5) that became self-aware and declared war on humanity July 4, 2025. Over a year later the great ‘Robot War’ is still raging and computer chips are the new gold of Earth. Now as a Gunhed battalion launches its last attack on the island thieves are trying to swoop in and gather computer chips. The machines help kill off several characters quickly it’s up to a mechanic, a Texas Ranger, and two kids to stop Kyron-5 from restarting and taking over the world. It’s a Japanese version of the “Terminator” world with a little Full Moon “Robot Wars” thrown in as I give it 3 stars.

The Return of the Vampire (DVD) – A 1943 film that intrigue me for the mere reason it was supposed to be a sequel to 1932’s “Dracula”. It even starred Bela Lugosi as the vampire. Problem was this film was made by Columbia Pictures and the original was made by Universal Studios who were about to unleash some legal kick ass on the company for the project. So Columbia Pictures changed all the characters names including Bela as he was known as Armand Tesla. He is a vampire that haunts a family in 1918 and then believed to be killed and buried. But he is disturbed by a WWII bomb over 20 years later and his stake removed so he can haunt the same family again. Pretty cool vampire stuff worth watching if you are a Lugosi fan and a vamp flick fan as I give it 3 stars.

Leaf Blower Massacre 2 (DVD) – Anthony Cooney has returned with a sequel to his 2012 tribute to “Nailgun Massacre”. This time around it is a full feature not a short but both are now available on the same DVD. The masked killer with a leaf blower has returned and the bodies are piling up. Two detectives are stumped of who could be the murderer until the only conclusion they can come to is that a teacher Mr. Jennings knows them all. Even with Mr. Jennings as the main suspect students are still dying to detectives’ disbelief. The film has three scenes that make this a success in my eyes: leaf blower to the girl’s front garage, the killer with leaf blower wanders through a death metal gig and no questions, and I get my death by nails scene! Mr. Cooney sir I give you 3 ½ out of 4 stars for this greatness.

Cry of the Werewolf (DVD) – There is a legend about a woman named Marie Latour who turned into a wolf and killed her husband years ago. Immediately after she disappeared and has lived among the gypsies as their queen. Now a professor has been researching the legend and may have found the answers they all had been looking for to prove the legend of Marie Latour. So Ms. Latour goes back to her old estate to stop Doctor Morris and along the way may have found new love. But her new love is soon to be married so she turns the fiancée into follower of hers to help protect the legend of the wolf but again kill the soon to be husband. Fun stuff about werewolf movie lure like this film is the first film to feature a woman as a werewolf as I give it 2 ½ stars.

Mutilation Massacre (DVD) – A short film from Derek Braasch about a young woman who goes on a serious murdering spree after her father decides to remarry. The crazy bitch even goes all “Stepfather” and shit and gets facial reconstruction to change her appearance. But a bitter family member is not fooled! Check out Stephanie the serial killer at www.cheeviesfilms.com as I give the short film 2 ½ out of 4 stars.

An Hour to Kill (DVD) – The latest project from independent filmmaker Aaron K. Carter is an anthology that the center pieces are hitmen. Gio – a grizzled vet and Frankie – the newbie are working together but the boss Mr. Kinski believes there is a leak within the organization. The boss gives Gio the new job and wants it done in an hour. So the two drive to a location for the hit and share horror stories: one features five women and a Nazi bunker, a second story about a prank gone wrong, third story about what you got to do to make the bowling team? And of course the wrap around are the two hitmen and their boss. A well-rounded, entertaining, and no weak parts in this anthology from Rotten Productions that made me laugh quite a few times as I give it 3 out of 4 stars.
