Cowboys vs. Dinosaurs (DVD) – Sometimes you wonder why these types of movies exist? Simply two things: One as long as I am alive I will find them and two I believe someone is stealing my dreams while I sleep or the government is uploading crap from my mind. Yes folks, call Mulder and Scully I think I am an X-file! Anyway, Eric Roberts shows up for a paycheck as a drunk local and Vernon Wells shows up as a badass as usual where he is trying to keep a mine going and escape dinosaurs in this small town. Local boy comes back home to small town Montana to find things have changed and not for the better. A mine explosion happens and dinosaurs are running loose eating the locals but Vernon wells and the local sheriff I trying to keep a lid on the multi-million dollar mining operation. Eventually local boy gets back on a horse and saves everyone but not before you will notice that if you are an old dude in this flick you have a hot girlfriend that is 20 years younger than your character… I give it 1 ½ stars, honestly it has Vernon Wells!

Yongary, Monster from the Deep (DVD) – Love Godzilla, enjoy random giant lizard movies, well you may enjoy bootleg Godzilla in this 1967 Korean B-movie? A mysterious earthquake happens and next thing you know a horned giant lizard starts fucking shit up. It’s the 60s and most likely this played constantly at the drive-in as I give it 2 stars.

The Orphan (VHS/DVD-R) – A weird and relatively unknown horror/thriller that was made in 1977. But what was weird and interesting was the film wasn’t released until late 1979 and was actually titled ‘Friday the 13th: The Orphan’? But some money changed hands and that was movie history as we all know the slasher genre was sent into overdrive! But the story revolves a young boy named David whose parents die so he must go live with his old Aunt Martha and oh by the way the film is set in the 1920s. David slowly goes nuts and begins praying to a stuffed Monkey in a shed and old Aunt Martha drives him into madness which gives the film a very dark ending. I give the film 2 stars.

Dark

Dark (Vimeo/DVD) – A new low budget flick from the writer and directors of such independent projects ‘Gut’ and ‘Phobia’ which I enjoyed immensely but also executive produced by Joe Dante so you got my attention. The film is set during a blackout in 2003 New York City where Whitney Able plays Kate aka bootleg version of Jennifer Jason Leigh which is always a good thing in my book. Kate is lost in life… She is not sure about her girlfriend, her life, and so on but then the blackout happens when her girlfriend goes out of town for the weekend. Kate is alone and decides to head to the bar to make some bad decisions. Soon she finds herself being followed and returns home only to darkness. This is where the story gets really weird because it raises the questions of did it happen, is she imagining it all, and did she even go to the bar? Her world unravels in this dramatic and beautiful world of weirdness I enjoyed. ‘Dark’ cannot be labeled a horror film as so much a thriller as you know you are getting something different from these guys involved with the project as they make projects that don’t fit into one genre. Think outside of the box in so many words as I give ‘Dark’ 3 out of 4 stars. Want to know about the film go check out: www.darkthefilm.com .

Future Hunters (VHS/YouTube) – Robert Patrick’s first flick from and 1986 and the Philippines where he (Slade) and his girlfriend are entrusted with the “Spear of Destiny” by a time traveling dude named Matthew. Matthew is from 2025 after the holocaust and believes this is the only way he can save his world and stop the holocaust from happening. So Matthew travels back in time to 1986 and meets Slade. But evil is coming and it’s in the form of Nazis and the Nazi version of Playboy Buddy Rose! The couple goes looking for Professor Hightower who is the key to helping them saving the world. But along the way they run into crazy kung fu people, amazon tribes on horseback, car chases, explosions, cave full of midgets, amazon women, and gators! After several ordeals Slade and his girlfriend make a deal with the sledgehammering midgets in the cave and find the rightful place for the “Spear of Destiny” and save the world. If it helps make this film any better it is from the same dude that gave us ‘Wheels of Fire’ as I give the flick 3 stars.

Sugar Hill (DVD) – A young lady named Sugar wants vengeance after her man is killed by gangsters who want his club. But she just isn’t down for any vengeance; she wants to get medieval on their gangster asses and recruits the likes of Baron Samedi or Baron Zombi if you are a yinzer like me. And Baron Samedi has zombies that are former slaves that died on their way to America. A fun 70s zombie flick you must add to your collection if you haven’t already as I give it 3 ½ stars.

Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary (DVD/Vimeo) – These days it seems a lot of documentaries are being made about horror films and such. Some deserve it? ‘Pet Sematary’ deserved it for sure for its impact on the horror genre. Honestly horror movie fans it was one of the better book to film adaptions of King’s. The Stephen King story that was brought to life by director Mary Lambert had a long journey and interesting one. The film came at the end of the “Slasher Era” and no studio wanted it to be made mainly because of the kid death in the story/script/movie. But with a strike looming at the time Mary Lambert and others took advantage of this and the rest was film history. The documentary takes a very in-depth look how it got from book to film but also how it’s one of King’s darkest books that scared him when he first wrote it. The filmmakers tracked down everyone that had anything to do with the film and they share stories of how the production got to Maine instead of California but what it meant to the small town Maine residents especially being a Stephen King movie. Plus the interview with all the cast members involved sharing their stories of on and off set makes this one the best and interesting horror documentaries of recent times. I believe it was crucial having Mako Hughes talk about his experience and what he actually remembers of the project to make this the perfect documentary for ‘Pet Sematary’ fans. The film did win “Best Documentary” at the Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival in 2014 which I know why and give it 4 out of 4 stars. For more info on the project and its upcoming release check out: Official Store: http://shop.terrorfilms.net/ , Official Trailer Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnP7swXKQXo, Official Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/UnearthedandUntold, Terror Films Website: www.terrorfilms.net .

Voodoo Island (DVD) – A great late 50s b-horror film starring Boris Karloff as a man who debunks: ghosts, demons, and present day myths. He leads an expedition to a tropical island where a millionaire wants to build his best vacation hotel yet. But surveyors that were sent there before disappeared and the lone survivor is in a zombie like trance. Once there weird stuff begins to happen like food going bad, boat doesn’t work, and plants just happen to eat people! Fun stuff and it looks like old Boris Karloff had a lot fun with this project as I give it 3 stars.

SS

The Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler, Adolf Hitler’s most loyal henchman meets Erebus, the gatekeeper of Hell!

Review from (Gross Movie Reviews):

Reichsfuhrer SS (DVD/Vimeo) – The same independent filmmaker that gave us “Operation: Nazi Zombies” a few years back is back at again with another Nazi film that involves Heinrich Himmler on about a $25,000 budget. The film is about how Himmler became a murdering Nazi bastard and meets the gatekeeper of hell after his suicide in 1945. While with the gatekeeper of hell Himmler goes through his past of what started him on his incredible murderous path. The crew does an amazing job with costumes, use of locations, décor, and even the gatekeeper of hell. If I didn’t tell you the budget of this flick most viewers would guess that the budget would be more like $200, 000 or $300,000 because of how authentic things look. The crew, the actors, and filmmaker go all out in this bad ass entertaining film about Himmler getting what he deserved in the end. I love watching independent movies that pay attention to detail when it comes to pictures, flags, etc. when movies are set in a certain time period and they should be proud of this project. I give this flick 3 out of 4 stars and more about this new release can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/RFSSMovie?fref=ts .

UNEARTHED & UNTOLD: THE PATH TO PET SEMATARY”

The-Path-to-Pet-Sematary-Movie-PosterThe-Path-to-Pet-Sematary-Sell-Sheet

Premieres the Official Trailer, Poster & Special Promotion

In September of 2015, TERROR FILMS announced that it had acquired, “UNEARTHED & UNTOLD: The Path To Pet Sematary” – the documentary chronicling the origins of Stephen King’s bestselling horror novel, “PET SEMATARY” and its journey from script to screen.

For eager fans that have long awaited the release of the documentary, which took filmmakers John Campopiano and Justin White nearly 5 years to complete, the wait is finally over.

Thursday April 21st, 2016, in celebration of the 27th Anniversary of the original film’s theatrical release, Terror Films premieres the Documentary’s Official Trailer, Poster and a SPECIAL ONE TIME LIMITED EDITION Promotion. The details of what’s included in the promotion are featured in the flyer seen here with complete details provided on the Terror Films Store Link below.

The Documentary promotional release will begin on April 27th and continue for 27 Days, ending on May 18th and will be the only time this Limited Edition Offer will be available, prior to the documentary’s official release currently set for October 2016.

During this limited time frame fans will be able to order the Limited Edition Combo Pack, which will include a dual Region Free DVD / Blu-Ray copy of the Documentary featuring interviews with Director Mary Lambert and the entire cast; including Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby, Miko Hughes, Brad Greenquist, Susan Blommaert, the Berdahl Twins and many more. The film also features never-before-seen footage from the sets in Maine, interviews with key crew, the town’s people and packed full of bonus features, including a fan appreciation sizzle reel, a personal interview with the documentary filmmakers and much, much more.

The film, which was discovered by Terror Film’s exec Jim Klock at the Rhode Island Flickers’ Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Horror Film Festival in 2014 is an important release for the company and they are not taking it lightly. Terror Films exec, Joe Dain who negot iated t he deal with the filmmakers stated, “We not only understand the relevance of our Company’s association with this iconic film via this incredible documentary; more importantly we understand the obligation we have to the fans to make this release as special as possible.”

Filmmakers Campopiano and White stated: “When we first set out for Maine nearly six years ago we thought, at most, we would take some photographs of the filming locations from Stephen King’s Pet Sematary and post them to social media. But upon that very first visit we knew that we had stumbled upon something special — stories, people, and places that had been barely documented for the extensive, global horror fan community. We knew within that first year that we needed to go back to Maine and continue to dig, not just to satisfy our own curiosities but also to try and bring an in-depth making of story about Pet Sematary to others who also share a deep appreciation for the film.  Terror Films has stepped up and showcased a similar love for Pet Sematary but, more importantly, the belief that the stories, people, and places we’ve documented have significance and ought to be shared with anyone who has an interest in Pet Sematary, Stephen King, the horror genre, or film in general.”

To learn more about this Special Limited Edition Promotion and to purchase the Documentary Combo Pack during the 27 day time frame, please visit the official Terror Films’ Shopify Store Link below and be sure to read all of the details before making your purchase.

The promotion will not go live until 12am PST on Thursday April 21st.

 Bigfoot-vs-Zombies-poster_op_768x1089

Bigfoot vs. Zombies (DVD) – Come on people the title says it all right? And you gotta love Mark Polonia is working non-stop in bringing us great films such as this lovely gem. Also if I have seen correctly there was an Anthony Polonia working on effects with Brett Piper for the film? But anyway something hokey is going on down at the Wyoming County Body Farm. The bodies are supposed to be for forensic school for cadets but a certain scientist has been performing experiments. Not only is he checking out how the corpses decompose he is seeing if he can make them decompose faster to make more money? This soon goes in full effect when a barrel is dumped on the property and the dead begin to rise. Meanwhile our old friend Bigfoot is watching from afar and finds himself in the gated military complex (it has two guards at the most). Now zombies are attacking the complex and the scientists and Bigfoot is pissed and begins smashing zombie skulls to help people escape into the woods. In the end Bigfoot is a zombie stomping bad ass in this wonderful entertaining entry into the Bigfoot genre. Thank you again Mr. Polonia for your work as I give your film 3 ½ out of 4 stars.

Hotel Transylvania 2 (DVD) – The whole gang is back for this animated feature about old school monsters trying to adjust that Drac’s daughter fell in love with a human. A few years have passed, a wedding has happened, and now Drac is a grandpa. One problem the child hasn’t turned into a monster? If he doesn’t get his vamp teeth by 5 years old he will be human. So it’s up to Dracula, Wolf Man, The Glob, Frankenstein, the Mummy, and The Invisible Man to help show the kid how they got to be a monster. The film has some funny stuff but not as nearly laugh out loud as the first film. But will give them credit for casting Mel Brooks as Drac’s father which was a big highlight and reason to watch the film. I give the animated feature 2 ½ stars.

The Wild Bunch (DVD) – I finally can scratch another brutal western that came out of the “spaghetti westerns era of the 60s” off my list of must watch. Some older outlaws looking for that supposedly last big robbery as they get tricked into robbing a bank for some iron washers that thought was money. Instead get trapped in a huge shootout where several of them and the townsfolk get shot down in the streets. William Holden and Ernest Borgnine come up with a plan to visit a Mexican general and talk to him about a heist of US guns for gold in return. The plan goes off great until a partner of theirs is kept behind because he was trying to help his people with a case of guns. The aging outlaws come back to visit the Mexican general and have one of the bloodiest stunt filled scenes cinema history. It was glorious! It is weird because I didn’t enjoy the film as much as I thought until I got to that scene and it made it well worth watching. Hard to explain but bottom line I guess I will always be that person that will always prefer ‘The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly’. Anyway if you haven’t seen this movie make it a point you do in your lifetime for the last 30 minutes of the film. You owe yourself to see cinematic history as I give the film 2 ½ stars.

Iron Man: Rise of Technovore (DVD) – A full length film that is part of the ‘Iron Man’ series that plays on the Disney XD channel where Iron Man is caught off guard when a teenager with symbiotic technology shows up and almost kills War Machine. With a little help from the Punisher, Iron Man gets to the bottom of the problem and has to stop the kid and his new tech from taking over the world. The newer series is okay but I lost interest very quickly as they went away from those Marvel Universe animated films from Lionsgate from a few years back. Iron Man series is directed to more of the Anime style which I believe limits who will actually give the series and the newer films a chance? But that can be debated at another time as I give this film 2 stars.

Ant-Man (DVD) – Well Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas yinz surprised me. I was expecting a shit show but this cheesy superhero film was quite entertaining entry into the Marvel/Disney universe. A thief (Paul Rudd) gets out of jail and wants to be legit for his daughter. But times become tough when he keeps getting fired for having a criminal record. He leans on his friends about this possible job where an old man has a safe with lots of money in it is going away for a week. They go to rob the place only to find an old motorcycle suit and helmet. Rudd’s character takes it anyhow and soon finds out he can shrink to ant size. Michael Douglas talks to him and gets him to come back to his house and explains that he can be the next “Ant-Man”? Especially now his old protégé is about to unleash a project called “Yellowjacket”. The film has enough cheese, interesting characters, and gives all the characters they introduce equal time that makes it quite entertaining. I thought the movie was going to be one big elephant turd but they proved me wrong as I give the film 3 stars.

All Cheerleaders Die (DVD) – An under the radar horror film about teenage angst and superiority when during a party in the woods an ex-boyfriend (who also happens to be the big football star) shows up and slaps his girl around. All the girls freak out and drive off, the boys chase them down until they are run off the road into a creek and died. Except the recent local outcast who just happens to be a witch and was sort of girlfriends with one of the cheerleaders brings them back to life. They awaken next morning and all they are concerned with is looking good for the first day of school. But soon know they need to feed to keep up strength and anytime one does they all feel it. Soon they kill the boys that wronged them one by one but more by accident more than anything. An odd supernatural horror film that isn’t your usual horror fare that is different enough made me glad I took the time to check it out. I got give it 2 ½ stars.

Meteor (DVD) – Sean Connery and Brian Keith are two experts respectively for their two countries space programs. They are brought in by NASA when a comet smashes into the asteroid field in space and sends shards of rock hurling towards earth causing disasters. But the biggest has yet to come when a 5-mile wide meteor is on a path to collide with Earth and end our existence. The US, Sean Connery and the Russian, Brian Keith must come up with a plan to stop or blow up the meteor. But in theory they must admit both countries have doomsday missiles aimed at each other’s countries which could be used to stop the meteor threat. A pretty cool disaster film from 1979 that was considered a failure at the box office but the studio spent millions on disaster effects. Including the mud scene where mud is flooding the subway. The 70s disaster film genre has tried to be rebooted several times over the years but didn’t have the impact it did during the 70s. Great film as I give it 3 stars.

Squirm (DVD) – This classic Jeff Lieberman film had the pleasure of being played on TBS in its heyday of cable around the clock with such films ‘Beastmaster’, ‘Frogs’, ‘Day of the Animals’, and usually after an Atlanta Braves game. Its fall of 1975 and a bad storm have hit a small Georgia community knocking out power and phones. But the down electrical lines are still running power into the ground and causing a ground swell of angry, roaring, man-eating worms! Now worms are just oozing out of everything eating humans! The movie is 40 years old and still a fun watch but also just found the DVD/Blu-ray format recently as I give the film 3 stars.

Truck Turner (DVD) – Holy shit this is an amazing cast for a film: Issac Hayes, Yaphet Kotto, Nichelle Nichols, Dick Miller, Charles Cyphers, and Scatman Crothers just to name a few for this Blaxploitation flick. Issac Hayes is a bounty hunter/skip tracer who makes a good buck tracking people down. But after tracking down a notorious pimp named Gator who jumped bail and killing him, he is on a hit list. Gator’s girlfriend wants revenge or should I say “a bucket of blood”. And she is willing to hire whoever or do whatever it takes for someone to kill Truck Turner. Great stunts, great supporting cast, and a shitload of fun! Issac isn’t the best leading man but there are enough characters in the film that makes it a well worth effort on his part. I give the film 3 stars.
