Mario Dominick will be missed

1

Well had some terrible news today that I never expected and sure quite a few of you in the Pittsburgh horror scene were as surprised as I was to learn Mario died yesterday. I never know what to say about things like this but Mario was a one of a kind person and I absolutely felt honored that Mario considered me a friend. His family is wonderful and I am still in shock of this news. R.I.P. Mario you will be missed big time my friend!

See yinz at Cinema Wasteland next week!

New guest announcement for Grossfest 2019!

0

For our next guest announcement is a pair like no other making independent horror films. They are raw, brutally honest, and have made some films that are absolutely disgusting and beautiful at the same time. The point is their films grab you by the naughty parts and make you pay attention! They may be the most talented duo out there in filmmaking land and have a constantly growing audience.  A lot of people know them as TOE TAG or as I would like to introduce them to the few that haven’t had the pleasure of meeting these talented young people I give you… Fred Vogel and Shelby Lynn Vogel! I believe the picture explains everything…

For anyone that wants to book their room for GrossFest the code for the discount is G19

Also people we didn’t go far from the original location (We like Washington, Pa. and they like us) but bar and restaurant will be open the whole time during the convention, plus the casino is only a short walk away, also for the out-of-towners always interested Primanti’s is a block or so away, plus this location is about a ½ mile from the exit off of I-79 and about a half mile or so from Route 19.

Once again we will have a great vendor room and movie room. But even better news people tickets are still only $10 for admission and vendor tables are still $50 each. VENDORS DON’T HESITATE to get your space. We sold out for our first show!

A little less than six months to go till… GROSSFEST!

Hello people, independent horror movie fans, vendors, authors, fellow geeks. Quite a few people have recently ask, “What is the goal of Grossfest?”

The goal of Grossfest isn’t just to have fun but to do a film festival, convention, whatever you wanna call it a little bit different. Grossfest is not here to compete with the local Steel City Con, Living Dead Festival, or even Horror Realm at The Hollywood Theater. Grossfest is an idea that yes, started off as a joke but was always an idea of something that I have always wanted to do. It’s an idea that has been rolling around in my head for many years. Hell, some of the people who got to see the Bastards of Horror film festival years ago at Horror Realm knew I always would like to do something like this. The point of this idea is to have an event once a year with help that will cater to independent filmmakers, independent actors, their films, independent authors, and celebrate them. Give them another platform to show off their work! Instead of the Indy people being only a small part of the event how about make them the biggest and best part of the event?

I want this event to not only be something I have always enjoyed for so many years about low budget and independent movies. But how about have an event where not only focuses on these cool talented people but introduce them to a crowd of film lovers and geeks that may not know them or only heard of them. Plus, have the filmmakers and so on meet each other filmmakers, gain new fans, etc. Also we all know conventions can be expensive believe me I have been there done that for years. The other part of the goal of Grossfest for me and the others behind it is we are not in it for the money, but to celebrate the independent genre. So that means keeping costs of tickets and vendor spaces low so we can do this every year at the same location! As I always said, “you never know when meeting these talented people and seeing their films when you might be introduced to the next Tom Savini or George Romero or KNB FX group?”

By some chance the event isn’t successful a really cool person, Tim Wilder (R.I.P.) said to me, “Order pizza and turn it into a party. All of our friends will be there anyway and there will be awesome movies!” And that I can never argue.

So if you are interested in being a vendor, contact us (grossfest@gmail.com) tables are only $50. Just a fan or wanna see what all the fuss is about tickets will be $10 at the door.  You are a filmmaker or producer that has a feature or a short film? We are taking those. Of course we already have our main lineup of films but we do have a segment where the best feature and short film sent to us will have a spot in the movie lineup but also win a “Grossfest” award! And again if successful my hope is to have another movie room to show off even more independent movies…

Guest announcements for GrossFest 2018!

0

Our first guest of Grossfest and one of my favorite filmmakers of all time is Todd Sheets! Or as I like to call him Todd “Mother Fucking” Sheets!

The man has a passion like no other for independent movie making. Todd Sheets is one of the few filmmakers out there that has been doing this since the shot on-video days! Todd is the link between new and old or from Jon McBride and The Polonia Brothers to Chris Seaver and Mike Watt to Jim Roberts and Dustin Wayde Mills. Mr. Sheets best known for his tidal wave of crazy zombie gore horror flicks “Zombie Bloodbath trilogy” has made many more since he started 30 years ago. Mr. Sheets has written, directed, produced segments for anthologies and has made other independent horror projects. But Todd is making waves again with his even more outrageously beautiful and different horror movie taste with projects such as: “House of Forbidden Secrets”, “Dreaming Purple Neon”, and “Bonehill Road”. Mr. Sheets shows no signs of slowing down. Mr. Sheets’ unmatched passion and love for the genre was a no-brainer to be the first guest for Grossfest. So it will be a great pleasure to have him at this one day event plus my inner 16 year old self will be doing cart wheels in the parking lot…

Our second guest of Grossfest is fresh face to the independent filmmaking world. Proud to present Nick Charles! Nick is an interesting person who for his first big project did a documentary about independent filmmaking called “B-Documentary”. He was able to get a few iconic people into the film and its impact of a film I believe is something all new independent filmmakers should check out before venturing out in the backyard, the woods, the abandoned property, etc. to start their first film. Nick has already a sequel just about finished and a couple other projects in pre-production. Nick’s excitement, passion, and just pure happiness of independent filmmaker is contiguous and again a pleasure to have at Grossfest!
