Grossfest 2018 we will see yinz there!
Hello people, independent horror movie fans, vendors, authors, fellow geeks. Quite a few people have recently ask, “What is the goal of Grossfest?”
The goal of Grossfest isn’t just to have fun but to do a film festival, convention, whatever you wanna call it a little bit different. Grossfest is not here to compete with the local Steel City Con, Living Dead Festival, or even Horror Realm at The Hollywood Theater. Grossfest is an idea that yes, started off as a joke but was always an idea of something that I have always wanted to do. It’s an idea that has been rolling around in my head for many years. Hell, some of the people who got to see the Bastards of Horror film festival years ago at Horror Realm knew I always would like to do something like this. The point of this idea is to have an event once a year with help that will cater to independent filmmakers, independent actors, their films, independent authors, and celebrate them. Give them another platform to show off their work! Instead of the Indy people being only a small part of the event how about make them the biggest and best part of the event?
I want this event to not only be something I have always enjoyed for so many years about low budget and independent movies. But how about have an event where not only focuses on these cool talented people but introduce them to a crowd of film lovers and geeks that may not know them or only heard of them. Plus, have the filmmakers and so on meet each other filmmakers, gain new fans, etc. Also we all know conventions can be expensive believe me I have been there done that for years. The other part of the goal of Grossfest for me and the others behind it is we are not in it for the money, but to celebrate the independent genre. So that means keeping costs of tickets and vendor spaces low so we can do this every year at the same location! As I always said, “you never know when meeting these talented people and seeing their films when you might be introduced to the next Tom Savini or George Romero or KNB FX group?”
By some chance the event isn’t successful a really cool person, Tim Wilder (R.I.P.) said to me, “Order pizza and turn it into a party. All of our friends will be there anyway and there will be awesome movies!” And that I can never argue.
So if you are interested in being a vendor, contact us (firstname.lastname@example.org) tables are only $50. Just a fan or wanna see what all the fuss is about tickets will be $10 at the door. You are a filmmaker or producer that has a feature or a short film? We are taking those. Of course we already have our main lineup of films but we do have a segment where the best feature and short film sent to us will have a spot in the movie lineup but also win a “Grossfest” award! And again if successful my hope is to have another movie room to show off even more independent movies…
All are welcome to the Grossfest event and if you have questions or want more details about the hotel go to www.grossfest.com or the Grossfest Facebook group page. Otherwise I will see yinz all in less than six months on July 28th, 2018 at The George Washington Hotel in Washington, Pa.
P.S. Thank you to the people who are taking a chance and standing behind this event and putting their time and money into it.

For our next guest announcement for Grossfest we wanted someone that may haven’t been to the area or someone that isn’t a convention regular or just someone yinz may not be expecting… maybe a known figure among Indy gorehounds so I introduce yinz to writer/director Brian Paulin! Mr. Paulin might be best known for such independent hit films “Bone Sickness” and “Fetus” but I remember this good man when I first seen the 2000’s “At Dawn They Sleep”. My review of the film wasn’t favorable but believed Mr. Paulin had the passion and drive to make some cool scary features. And Brian has as his films punch you in the face with amazing and possibly disturbing to some folks gore effects… I have yet to see his latest films “Blood Pigs” and “Cryptic Plasm” but the covers will bring out the teenage metalhead inside of you. Brian is the founder of Morbid Vision Films and we are proud to have him at our show. http://www.morbidvisionfilms.com
Go to http://www.grossfest.com for info on vendor spaces, where to send your film submission too, or hotel info!

For our seventh guest announcement for Grossfest is a filmmaker, actor, producer who I have known since he was a teenager. This person is more of your “outside of the box non-traditional” independent filmmaker. His movies have their own rules, he doesn’t stick to one genre, and I have absolutely loved it every step of the way. Most filmmakers having lower or no budgets for their projects would hold them back? This filmmaker thrives on it by using imagination, talented friends and actors, and brilliant writing. “Wolfster, Part 1: The Curse of the Emo Vamp, Basic Slaughter, The Slasher Hunter, Everyone Must Die!, Super Task Force One, Captain Z & the Terror of Leviathan, Red Christmas, The Survivors, CarousHELL” are some of his films he has made over the past decade. With great respect, absolute delight, and there is no way I could not have ask this person to be a part of Grossfest: I introduce you to the charming and handsome Steve Rudzinski! Steve’s recent “CarousHELL” film like “The Barn” is one of my favorite independent films that I have had the pleasure of watching in my lifetime. Like “The Barn” dudes it would not surprise me to see Steve move on to bigger things soon… Next up for Steve “A Meowy Christmas”.
Grossfest Film Contest
Hey independent filmmakers you have a feature length film or a short film that you are thinking about sending to festivals? Well, we are looking for them for Grossfest 2018! Here are the rules:
First, we need a physical copy of the film to qualify.
Second, no fee for entering the film except the shipping charges you will have to pay to get the film to us.
Third, this does not guarantee the film will play at Grossfest. Why? We have a limited amount of time. Come on people it’s a one day event. Tim Gross will be picking the best feature and best short film and they will receive the first ever Grossfest movie award. Also all films will be reviewed and show up on www.grossmoviereviews.com . Like the film or not Tim will still review it.
Fourth, this begins October 31, 2017 and all entries need to be in or postmarked by May 28, 2018. This is so proper time can be given to review the movie and decide the winners. The winners of best feature and best short film will be shown at some point between 11am – midnight July 28, 2018 during Grossfest. Hopefully we will have a schedule of the films playing a few weeks before Grossfest?
Our first guest of Grossfest and one of my favorite filmmakers of all time is Todd Sheets! Or as I like to call him Todd “Mother Fucking” Sheets!
The man has a passion like no other for independent movie making. Todd Sheets is one of the few filmmakers out there that has been doing this since the shot on-video days! Todd is the link between new and old or from Jon McBride and The Polonia Brothers to Chris Seaver and Mike Watt to Jim Roberts and Dustin Wayde Mills. Mr. Sheets best known for his tidal wave of crazy zombie gore horror flicks “Zombie Bloodbath trilogy” has made many more since he started 30 years ago. Mr. Sheets has written, directed, produced segments for anthologies and has made other independent horror projects. But Todd is making waves again with his even more outrageously beautiful and different horror movie taste with projects such as: “House of Forbidden Secrets”, “Dreaming Purple Neon”, and “Bonehill Road”. Mr. Sheets shows no signs of slowing down. Mr. Sheets’ unmatched passion and love for the genre was a no-brainer to be the first guest for Grossfest. So it will be a great pleasure to have him at this one day event plus my inner 16 year old self will be doing cart wheels in the parking lot…
Our second guest of Grossfest is fresh face to the independent filmmaking world. Proud to present Nick Charles! Nick is an interesting person who for his first big project did a documentary about independent filmmaking called “B-Documentary”. He was able to get a few iconic people into the film and its impact of a film I believe is something all new independent filmmakers should check out before venturing out in the backyard, the woods, the abandoned property, etc. to start their first film. Nick has already a sequel just about finished and a couple other projects in pre-production. Nick’s excitement, passion, and just pure happiness of independent filmmaker is contiguous and again a pleasure to have at Grossfest!
