Speaking about Grossfest 2023 this August 5th…

0

Since we have filled about ¾’s of the ballroom with vendors and guests (get your table soon folks) thought it was time to speak out? Say hey or how yinz doing n’at? What are the Gross Brothers doing?

Answer: The same thing we were doing in 2018… (Besides Tom Gross being a famous actor) Giving a convention or I should word it this way a home for independent vendors, filmmakers, authors, and actors to thrive. Independent movie fans we are in a world of autograph shows these days where its $125 to shake the hand of a John Carpenter and table prices for that convention that make you question you going on as an artist? We are not here to debate these actions but just like five years ago we are trying to give artists an alternative of not breaking the bank or destroying your budgets to do your next project while promoting the most recent one. We ain’t reinventing the wheel, we are just trying to have a fun convention where we all can have fun, network, sell some cool shit, and keep this cool exciting event going year in and year out! I have said it before “This is either the beginning of the end or Grossfest has just got started”. We know there is a few of yinz out there hope we don’t succeed, we know there is some of yinz watching and staying quiet to see how we do going big again (it’s cool, we will be waiting for you next year), there is a couple of yinz waiting for us to go to two day event (don’t worry we are waiting for yinz too) and we know we have our Grossfest die hards. Point is people if yinz want this to be fun and survive we will need your help: Know a vendor that could be interested? Tell them contact grossfest@gmail.com as the spaces are only $50! Know people who want to check this event out? Admission is $10 the day of the show at the door of the ballroom. Spread the word of Grossfest as our goal is not just to make money to sustain the event but for it to get bigger to bring more or different Indy guests in, play more movies, have people get together and come up with awesome crazy independent film, book, or artwork ideas, or most of all just make it the premiere event for all yinz independent folk. Remember you never know when you might be shaking hands with the next John Carpenter or even (because it is Pittsburgh) the next George A. Romero and it didn’t cost you hundreds upon hundreds of dollars. Now for my closing statement: we are not here to compete against other conventions as much as to be what we always were, Grossfest… because remember we are the joke that keeps on going and told we could never do this… so why can’t we just support independent cinema, have fun doing it, and see where it goes?  See yinz August 5th for our one day Grossfest!

Another guest announcement for Grossfest 2023

0

So Grossfest is always on the lookout for a different guest or two to have at our event. So this announcement should be no surprise but something different and interesting for the folks who may have heard of them but not had the pleasure of ever meeting them or seeing their work? They are a couple of wonderful friendly people who have worked hard at their craft of being horror hosts and entertaining the low budget world on their YouTube channel and social media pages! With great pleasure I would like to introduce yinz all to a couple of lovable characters that get it and enjoy movies just like us… The Mummy and the Monkey! See yinz August 5th.

Grossfest guest list… so far

0

This energetic, talented actor, director, overall cool human being has been one of my favorite and possibly most interesting people I have had the pleasure meeting over the years. You may know him from one of the best Indy “massacre” films ever made in “Pool Party Massacre”. But he also has parts in recent projects such as: The Barn 2, Amityville Hex, Scare Me, and Slashlorette Party as Grossfest is honored to have Drew Marvick as a guest.

This talented newcomer to the filmmaking community busted onto the scene with a film not only shot on video but prefers the process and has already carved a niche into the scene with their first big project “Spirit Animal”. Now they are about to rock the boat of Indy filmmaking again with their latest “Bathtub Shark Attack”! I dare you to say there is a bigger supporter of SOV films and shark films out there? So with great pleasure we will be having Madeline Deering as a guest.

This filmmaker is a quiet, talented fellow that I have known for many years and have had the pleasure watch him grow and learn with his films. I get super excited when this individual has a new release because I know it’s gonna be gory, fun, and possibly a little disturbing. He might be best known for such titles: Welcome to Deer Creek, Tonight You Die, What’s Wrong With Mom?, and Happy Hour Holocaust . But the I believe the Indy world is about to be blown away by this filmmaker’s most complete feature to date with “Then My Mind Walked Away” as we enjoy knowing Jim Roberts will be joining Grossfest as a guest.

Now this dude is excellent and his career has spanned a few decades where he started in a little role for a little film called “The Dead Next Door”. From there he was in such titles: Robot Ninja, The Sandman, Polymorph, Killer Campout, Frames of Fear 3, Deathboard, Hell Van  just to name a few. But recently has really made an impact as a director with titles: Her Name is Christa and Brimstone Incorporated! We believe Grossfest fans will enjoy his presence and we are happy to announce James L. Edwards as a guest.

Now yinz know we cannot have a Grossfest unless we have this individual as a guest? This director, actor, producer, has given Indy fans such fun titles as: Basic Slaughter, The Slasher Hunter, Everyone Must Die!, Super Task Force One, and then showed off his talent even more when he broke through with not just his “Meowy” series but his “CarousHell 1 and 2” breaking into the mainstream! This multi-talented star is on the edge of going global but always has time for us folks at Grossfest as usual we enjoy knowing we have Steve Rudzinski as a guest.

Over the past decade Mr. Clevenger has had a variety of roles through several Indy projects but also is a director, producer, etc. It isn’t often someone can make waves with one Indy film project and if I could point out a film that in our opinion is why we wanted him as a guest for Grossfest it is his first directed feature 2018’s “People to Kill” starring the very talented Erin Ryan. That film stands out big time when we discuss independent films over the years and take our word on it… It will stick with you as you get to meet this very cool individual who we are happy to have as a guest at Grossfest, Mr. Adam Scott Clevenger.

Grossfest-o-ween is coming soon!

0

Hey Grossfest fans it won’t be long before Saturday, October 29th, 2022 rolls around and we are having another outdoor event that features filmmakers, artists, and authors!

First, THE EVENT IS FREE TO THOSE ATTENDING.

Second, vendors remember we have limited space and they are going fast. 10X10 space, you bring the table, chairs, and canopy tent and its $25 for the space. (Yes, we will be around to help set you up.) You can go to www.grossfest.com and click on the link there to get a vendor agreement and pay, or just contact the famous actor Tom Gross on Facebook, or contact grossfest@gmail.com. (Reminder, you must have a signed vendor agreement to come set up.) Set up is 9 to 10:59am that morning. It is a parking lot, let’s keep this simple my friends.

Third, sorry folks no movies are playing (when we do a bigger Grossfest there will be movies) but you will be able to go onto the patio and meet our two special Grossfest guests in Maddie Deering and Steve Rudzinski. They are two of the most talented young independent filmmakers in the Western, Pa. area and their recent projects are making a lot of waves in the independent world so meet them before they go Hollywood!!!

Fourth and most important, because the show is free, all we ask in return besides visiting, supporting, and networking with all the great vendors please walk inside the bar/restaurant Willow Station: have a drink, sample the awesome food, support a great local place who puts up with our CHAOS called Grossfest, and meet some new friends there.

Questions… I honestly hope this answers it all if not contact me and the famous actor Tom Gross on Facebook or through grossfest@gmail.com again. We thank yinz for your support and come out to support some cool people on a very festival weekend!

Living the Dream (in independent films)

Living the Dream (in independent films)

Okay for the dozen of you that will actually take the time to read this post/blog/article and got past the flashing thingy-ma-jig on the Google machine or your phone thank you… For the rest of you this is actually me making a point for yinz N’at! Anyway, we hear people all the time say, “I am living the dream”. We know its bullshit and wanna punch them in the face! But just stay with me here as for the week of August 13th-20th, 2022 I might actually be “living the dream”? Wait on punching me in the face… There is a point here if you are an independent filmmaker, author, script writer, actor, etc. During the week of August 13th-20th, 2022, “The Barn 2” is having a premiere August 13th & 14th which I actually had a very small speaking part in (if Zane and Justin didn’t cut me out… I would understand lol). Next, there is a DVD being released on the 16th from SOVHorror.com where I am not just in the movie from Maddie Deering called “Trash Removal” but I am actually on the cover. Then on the 20th, there is a special backyard screening of “Spirit Animal” which is gaining steam as an Indy cult classic which I get killed by a buffalo head. (If you wanna go a little further on the 27th we continue to shoot more scenes for ‘Sorority Sasquatch’ segment for our film “Tales from the Gross Side”.) Sorry yinz I will make my point and that is “living the dream”. The week of August 13th-20th is an example of the payoff. Life can be a grind people and most of us if not all don’t have the ideal jobs? This is where independent filmmaking, acting, writing comes in and some get discourage quickly, don’t make money, or feel it is going nowhere? I am here to tell you when I do movie panels or speak at conventions and use the phrase “if you are doing this for the money you are in the wrong business” comes into play… Ask yourself if you are “living the dream” when you act, direct, or write because know this there is a payoff or at least I believe there is no matter how long it takes. Think about it: I am 47 (I know I am an old Chudsquatch by your standards), I have been either writing books, trying to get into movies, or run Grossfest for the past twenty years and this week coming soon is the first time in my life I actually understand the phrase “living the dream”. Again the point my friends there is a payoff for all your passion, hard work, shitty effects work, or the camera taking a shit after you shot some of the greatest scenes ever in your life so hang in there and understand independent filmmaking, writing, acting is about fun, your passion, being away from your real but most likely shitty job because what is the worst that can happen? Someone sees your project and they actually like it…? Now that is crazy or maybe it is just you getting to “live the dream”… So think because maybe there was a payoff and you just chose to not acknowledge it?

Grossfest-o-ween is coming!

Yes Grossfest fans, we are doing one more outdoor event. The last had a tornado warning and downpours of rain, but that didn’t stop all of us (guests, vendors, and attendees) from having fun at Willow Station Restaurant and Bar in Castle Shannon, Pa. Hell Grossfest fans, let’s see if it snows this time? On Saturday, October 29th, 2022, from 11 to 4, we will be celebrating Halloween with Willow Station. We also have two guests lined up for our free show which will be announced in the next week. Look, we know Grossfest is something yinz all want to happen and so do we. Pandemic, government blows ass, people with no jobs, gas prices, everyone has lost their mind, take your pick of the many things that is killing off conventions right now? In this area it takes $10,000 to put on a one day show and none of us have that right now. We live in reality and knowing what we did before the pandemic and what we have tried since, people still want Grossfest to exist and to keep supporting all the independent filmmakers, authors, and artists! Grossfest is not part of the cool kids’ community, Grossfest is a show for the independent filmmakers, authors, and artists trying to survive in a crowd of autograph shows that may have forgot what made those shows once fun. The goals of Grossfest will always be to support the independent community and have fun for all doing it because remember it started off as a joke. Again folks the show is free to attend! But like before we just ask for all yinz to go inside and visit the nice folks (Sean, Kim, and Dom) of Willow Station Restaurant and Bar and show your support by buying a pop, a beer, lunch, etc. This helps show these nice folks that you are happy they allowed us to use their parking lot for Grossfest!

First Vendor info:

Vendors: Same rules… Bring your own canopy tent, chairs, and table for your space. (We are not supplying them) Spaces are only $25 again! Please contact grossfest@gmail.com for a vendor application and you can make payment through PayPal, cash, or send us a check. If needed contact Tom Gross through Facebook or find the link through www.grossfest.com. The signed contract will be needed before the show. Set up will be from 9 to 11 for vendors!

Now for the guest announcement:

This guest has been nothing but busy the past couple years since she has busted on the independent movie scene with the critically acclaimed “Spirit Animal”! Since then she has done a short that is about to be released on an anthology called, “Trash Removal”, help host a funny and smart podcast called, “The Shitty Shark Show”, worked on another critically acclaimed Indy project “Beyond Dark Dreams” and now has set her sights even higher with her latest project “Bathtub Shark Attack”, please welcome Maddie Deering as a guest for Grossfest-o-ween.

This multi-talented person literally needs no introduction but gonna give one anyway because he has been nothing but brilliant in front and behind the camera. Actor, director, writer, content creator for www.stevebuster.com and www.silverspotlightfilms.com, has made one of the most unusual but one of the best independent films ever in “CarousHell”, but lastly and most importantly is a Grossfest award winner we like to welcome once again Steve Rudzinski. (If we are lucky his super talented wife Tracy will be there also to attend?)
