The Cycle (Shudder) – This under the radar werewolf film comes with some fresh storytelling of a tale that most horror movie fans are familiar with. Dr. Garland, an anthropologist, is pulled into an odd case of murder not too far from her because her father’s body is found at a murder scene nearby. A mother and daughter are the victims but her father’s body (Peter Stump) not exactly decaying correctly seems to be unrelated but weird. The good doctor hasn’t seen her father for decades after he ran out ranting and raving one night and her mother refuses to talk about him. Once Meg gets involved she digs deep to find answers to why her father’s body would be anywhere this murder but a mysterious fire at the morgue cancels out her investigation. A little bit of time passes but she is once again pulled back into the weirdness of it all by the cops as bite marks were found in the rumble of the fire. As the bodies begin to pile up Meg has to start from the beginning of why her father disappeared in 1991. I have seen some mixed reviews on this film but sleep on this film breathing some fresh life into the werewolf genre that most horror fans don’t give a chance unless it is a copycat of ‘American Werewolf in London’ as I give this werewolf tale 3 stars.
Spidernado (Tubi) – Are yinz “nado” out yet? Well if not there is this bad effort about a small British community dealing with flesh eating spiders after a tornado sweeps by a nuclear waste dumping area to these toxic bastards around. Imagine ‘Ticks’ meets ‘Twister’ in the ‘Plan 9 from Outer Space’ world but not in a fun bad way. If you are into bad Cg’d spiders digging underground of a so-called cabin or my Halloween spider decorations from my front yard attacking people then you have found your movie as I give it 0 stars.
Slashercise (Tubi) – We visit the aerobics nostalgia horror genre again as we have a killer named “Meathead” slashing his way through workout places in L.A. Killer Fitness, the premiere workout place has a new instructor showing up to introduce her ‘Killer Workout’. It is a class filmed for video to get in shape and survive a slasher film. The beauty or maybe not depending how you look at this is most the film is this legit workout for horror movie fans. The film helps itself with lots of fun cameos as the killer Meathead is more of a minor plot point throughout this horror fitness film. For me the film comes off as an hour long skit and I know of better and even more recent “Killer Workout” films but some horror fans I believe will enjoy it more than I did as I give it 2 stars.
Evil of the Rat (Tubi) – I am always in for mutant or giant rat films as this project out of China smashes several “rat” horror projects together in one. Xia Tian, who just happens to be a reporter with friends, heads to a small community that is all but dead because of the water being contaminated. They cross paths with a young girl they believe could be in trouble. Xia and friends go snooping around an abandoned factory to quickly find they are not just dealing with possible kidnapping but a dude mutating rats on purpose for some evil deeds. Of course the bad CG’d rats if that is what you wanna call them get loose chase the friends through a series of tunnels as the movie just gets boring from there as the effects get worse the more the movie proceeds. I had some hope in the beginning of finding a fun mutant rat movie but only found a boring disappointment as I can only give this 1 star.
Return of the Living Dead: Aftermath (YouTube) – Like most horror fans and fans of the original I watched this out of curiosity more than anything and didn’t pay money to see it. It was what you probably have already heard “lots of AI crap” to put it lightly, but if you do a couple seconds of research on the filmmaker? Pretty much this dude is notorious for putting crap out there! The point is if this filmmaker and the company Dragonflix made this garbage just to get the horror community in an uproar and your names to be all over social media? Mission accomplished! You won! Congrats yinz won “assholes of the year” because this one horror fans will remember. This filmmaker literally said “hold my beer” to such characters as Uwe Boll (doesn’t matter how you feel after the fact about his movies now because if you were old enough you remember the shit he stirred up) and the two weirdos that made ‘Amityville Mt. Misery Road’. Anyway moving onto the review if you actually try to watch it and not get a headache from all the AI crap along the way like I did this is “SUPPOSEDLY” (sorry you can’t see the dumb air quotes I am doing while writing this at same time) unedited tapes from a broadcast of a screening of ‘Night of the Living Dead’ on KBC channel 8 in Louisville, Kentucky on July 3rd, 1984. As the movie begins there are conflicting reports coming in about a zombie attack, interviews, what the hell was happening in between stuff that we saw in the original movie, and they try to explain after the cleanup and zombies being sent to space… Yes, yinz heard me right. I had to laugh overall just because for years I would scream about the extra footage for the 30th anniversary of NOTLD being dumb and nonsense or the mere fact of the movie “The Children of the Living Dead” was even a bigger dumb ass movie that never should have existed. But let me thank Richard Driscoll for finding a way to be an even bigger dumb ass than those behind those two projects of winning the crown of “ultimate dumbassery”. Again man you won if that was what you were going for but my question to you will always be “was it worth it being hated by a passionate community that will not forget what you did to one of their beloved projects?” Yes folks, it is so bad it doesn’t deserve a rating as I have watched some terrible stuff over the years (pay attention to a couple projects I mentioned before). This just feels like a so-called filmmaker just went out of his way to see how much he could insult people with one project…
Dracula in Space (Tubi) – Best way to describe this mess is in the Joe Bob way… Have you seen a terrible vampire film in space before? Of course you have! But have you seen a terrible, no thought, bad AI and CG’d scenes with almost no blood in space vampire flick that steals a plot from at least five movies to attempt to make it work? I think not as I give this mess 0 stars.

Amityville Barbi vs The Evil Dead-O’s (Download/DVD) – Entry #88 into the ongoing series of Amityville films is a super interesting one as this short film is something of hope to gain interest and the right funding to make a feature (yes kids, years ago filmmakers did this all the time to shop their projects around). Anyway this short film project stars the lovely talented Jessa Jupiter Flux who is perfectly casted as Barbi. You know your average beautiful woman being followed by two men, excuse me demons who trap her in a warehouse. All Barbi wanted to do was hook up on her “Tingle” app and instead she has these two demons who are chopping it to bit, to bite into her. Problem is she actually lured them into this place so no one knows of the carnage she is about to unleash on these poor delusional demons. The dialogue is hilarious, a great concept I would love to see fleshed out into a feature, and most of all the demons and make up were great. 4 out of 4 stars all the way as the filmmakers got the perfect lead in Jessa Jupiter Flux to bring this character to life in this project and hopefully for the feature in the future. (Reminder there is a physical media of this project coming soon).
